This release celebrates the deep history of Black Music in Philadelphia, especially the legacy of soulful disco and its influence on house music. With this project, lildave215 and his collaborators created an updated version of the classic Philly soul song “I Love Music”, which was written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff and originally recorded by The O’Jays. This new version pays tribute to the original with its mix of gritty funk and sophisticated soulful melodies, but also pushes it forward with house music style drum programming and synthesizers.

The singing is handled by beloved house music vocalist Lady Alma, who effortlessly maintains the uplifting energy of the original song. The track comes alive even more, thanks to the fantastic playing of Yesseh Ali on saxophone and flute. Mixing and mastering was handled by Grammy Award winning producer Vidal Davis, who also produced an amazing remix. The remix features bass from Jon L. Smith and keys & synths from Charles Scoot Jackson.

This project was developed with the help of Black Music City.

Black Music City offers the largest grant opportunity, exclusively for Black creatives in Philadelphia, to produce new artistic works across mediums that celebrate the city’s rich music heritage, while elevating artists’ platforms. A bold collaboration between public radio stations WXPN-FM and WRTI-FM, along with REC Philly, Black Music City has grown into a major force for creative empowerment — elevating voices and honoring Philadelphia’s legacy of Black music and culture. Returns

Returns will be accepted for up to 15 days of Customer’s receipt or tracking number on unworn items. You, as a Customer, are obliged to inform us via email before you return the item, only in the case of:

  • Received the wrong item
  • Item arrived not as expected (ie. damaged packaging)
  • Item had defects

Returns for products and size exchanges will be offered by our discretion only. Our production operation is fulfillment on-demand, so if we choose to offer size exchanges, we would need to place a new order in your desired size and that item will then have to be produced/shipped again. We can expect an exchange transaction to take 3-4 weeks before you receive it.

The returned product(s) must be in the original packaging, safety wrapped, undamaged and unworn. This means that the item(s) must be safely packed in a carton box for protection during transport, possibly the same carton used to ship to you as a customer.
